About

Welcome to my space...formerly,There's Something Different!

Hi, my name is Alecia and this is my space on the Internet. My writing home. I write because I'm much better at writing out what I think than saying it. In a lot of ways, writing has healed some very raw past hurts.

I'm a mom of two, Keeli and Jackson. I like to say they saved my life. Before them I did all the wrong things. I was pregnant and out of wedlock at the age of 21, married my boyfriend. Nearly divorced him a hundred times in the first few years, because MAN is marriage HARD!

I actually picked up or thought I had picked up a book on praying for your children (Stormie Omartian) but instead bought Power of a Praying Wife. I promptly decided to take the book back to the store! If anyone needed to pray it was HIM! But first, I started reading it. And kept reading. And before I knew God was changing ME!

My husband has a gypsy soul, as I like to say, because in the 15 years we've been married we've moved 9 times! I like to tease him we should have been military.

We are now happily in Auburn, AL and I hope we are here for a really long time...or at least until the kids graduate school.

Life isn't at all as I imagined, it's good, different, and hard.

Through my rough marriage and strong-willed first child God has been refining me in ways I never imagined. I am stronger in faith, more open to change, and more patient than I ever thought I would be.

I had to learn the hard way that God's ways really are better than my own.

I hate religion and cheap churchy advice. I want real and authentic, all the time. I want to live a life of radical love and grace and hope my words inspire others to do the same.

Some of my favorite posts have happened after I wrestled with God either out of my own sin and pride or hurt from some else's . Posts such as  the Memory Stones and the In The Whisper, are my favorite and most read on the blog, they unfolded after digging into God's word.

I would hate for you to miss a post, won't you consider subscribing through email? I promise not to clutter up your inbox, maybe once-twice weekly.

  2. Hi! So far we are loving Iowa, everyone is so friendly here, my kids don't want to ever leave! :)
Where about in Iowa do you live? I'm sure you are as thankful as us for the mild winter we have had so far, I know everyone around here is just waiting for it to end and get a truckload of snow dumped on us:) I'm praying it doesn't, and so far God has been gracious to allow a mild winter while we are here.
    Thanks for stopping over!

    1. Hi Alecia,
I apologize, I don't think I came back to this page to see your reply before now. :( So sorry! I'm in the DM area. The mild winter was wonderful. However, today's oppressive humidity, I could do without. God bless!

    2. No worries, I do the same thing sometime! We are up around Cedar Falls, so not too far from you. The last week of school to us to the Des Moines area for a field trip to the Capital. It was beautiful, and we loved the area!

  3. I found your blog this morning via A Holy Experience. I began reading your post, and hmm, rhythms, sounds so familiar! I too am from Cedar Falls, and PLC! What a small world!

My husband and I are also Iowa transplants, when he retired from the Air Force, we moved here with two children in tow, and made this state our home. It took years for me to be able to comfortably say I was from Iowa, it just felt so weird. But now, 12 1/2 years later, we have two Iowa State graduates, and we really love this area of the country!

  4. Wow!! What a crazy coincidence. PLC has been one of the biggest blessings to my family in our move here, we absolutely LOVE it!
We've only been here a short while, but we are surprised about how much we like this area and the people. Maybe I'll see you around church :)

  5. I just came over from your God-Sized Dream blog post and I must say, based on your "eleven random facts," we have quite a bit in common. I too am a chocoholic (which is just peachy keen when you're trying desperately to lose weight), I love college football, I snore only when I am really tired or have a sinus issue/cold going on, I am rather introverted....I can whisper but I hate it when people whisper. Whispering is to me what nails on a chalkboard is to most people. I am tall though (5'11") and I love all the seasons (I actually prefer being cold). Anyway, nice to "meet" you! :) God Bless!

  6. Nice to meet you too, Ashley! I love meeting new people that I have so many things in common with...even if one of those things is snoring! :)
