How To Grocery Shop The Clean Way

Learning how to grocery shop the healthy way-and on a budget -will be the greatest gift to your health you can give yourself.

"You can pay the farmer now or the doctor later, your choice."(unknown)

Eating healthy is more expensive, but below I'm going to share my tips so that you won't break the bank.

1. Make a menu and make a list- This has helped me the most in keeping my grocery bill low, but also buying food that we will actually eat during the week.

2.Shop online, farmer's markets, & Coops- I LOVE Farmer's Markets. You can find cheap-local produce there. Buy into a coop and for a monthly fee get fresh produce delivered to your door. And for dry goods buying online may be the best way to go. Amazon, Thrive Market, Vitacost, and Tropical Traditions are a few of my favorites (links below)

3.Shop the perimeter of the store- Keep to the outside. This is where the produce, milk, dairy, meats, and produce are located. And that is what your diet should be mostly made up of. The middle aisles are where the processed foods are. Venture in carefully, lest you get sucked in by their fancy marketing.

4. Buy in bulk- You can save more per ounce this way. Go in with some friends and invest in a cow or pig. You will have meat for months at a fraction of the cost you'd get in grocery stores.

5. Don't buy the junk- Step away slowly. Remind yourself why you started your healthy eating journey in the first place.

Have you found ways to save money while eating healthy?

  1. This hit home for me, Alecia, in a very subtle but strong kinda way. I've been eating randomly through the long winter and am still looking for excuses to keep grazing idly instead of purposely caring for myself by eating well. You've taken me closer to where I need to go. And for that I thank you, friend.

Easter's most joyous blessings to you!

  2. This makes me think about the things I buy and keep. Uh-oh. Guilty.
    Thanks for the examples. :)

  3. lol, thanks for stopping by, Lux! Good luck on your future shopping trips.

  4. Coming off the holidays is the hardest for me. So much sugar and usually too many carbs. It leaves me craving more of the same. Thankful this has helped you move one more step closer to caring for yourself.

We had a very good, peaceful Easter. I hope you had the same.
