I Don't Always Think Before I Speak...

Our online world has created a way of living for people to make comments on another's life without any relationship being involved. We can say something hurtful without any consequences.

We forget there is an actual person on the other side.

Total strangers can now leave commentary on your life without anything to lose.

It doesn't feel good when you are on the receiving end of someone's hit and run.

Whether online or in person, family, friends, or neighbors, let us think before we hit publish. May we ask ourselves are my words:

 kind,

 necessary,

 helpful,

uplifting?

I'm reminded of the verse in Matthew 5:23,24: "Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering."

Before we air the hurt/anger/annoyance publicly take it the person first. Give them a chance to explain before outing them publicly.

I like the analogy of comparing speaking our words to a sneeze. Once it's out of your mouth there is no taking it back. Can you imagine someone snatching at the air to try and stuff their sneeze back into their body? ha!

"Kind words are like honey--sweet to the soul and healthy for the body." Proverbs 16:24

"The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words." Proverbs 15:28

I don't always think before I speak, but when I do I am always glad!
