We all did it. We looked at the back of every package and looked at the calorie and fat content before we purchased an item at the store.
We had been brainwashed into thinking fat makes you fat. Don't eat it!
We traded in our butter for margarine
Whole milk for skim
Full fat cheese for fat-free
We had products like SnackWells, Hunt's low fat pudding, Slim-Fast, WOW! chips (fat-free chips made of the ever famous, tummy-ache inducing-olestra oil), Dannon yogurt with sprinkles on top.
You get the picture.
Even today now that I know fat-good fat-isn't going to make me fat I still find myself checking to see how much fat is in something, and catching myself from putting it back :)
Old habits die hard.
Why is fat good for us?
- Reduce inflammation
- Increases insulin sensitivity (a good thing)
- Support your metabolism
- Helps regulate thyroid
- Helps burn fat
- Balances hormones
- Eliminates cravings
- Doesn't increase risk for heart disease like once thought (but carbs will)
- Better skin, hair, and eye health
What is considered a good fat?
- Raw Nuts
- Coconut Oil
- Coconut Milk
- Grass-fed raw butter & cheese
- Grass-fed meat
- Flax and Chia seeds
When we load our bodies up with these good fats our bodies become fat-burners. Ironic isn't it? We eat fat and we lose fat.
And we all want that!
Action Step: Adding coconut oil/milk to your diet is a great way to get good fat into your body. Buy some this week and give it a try!
Let me know what you think ;)
